My Short List of Life Lessons.
- 1. Play outside your comfort zone. "But I like things the same ... safe and secure." The people for whom things always stay the same, have already died.
- 2. Never give up. Hardly anything works the first time. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it and your opportunity would be gone.
- 3. Ready to quit? You're almost there. The ancient Chinese proverb is true: "The temptation to quit will be greatest just before you are about to succeed."
- 4. What's the worst that could happen? Consequences are hardly ever as bad as those we can imagine. "Well, Bob, if it doesn't work out, at least they can't eat you."
- 5. One day at a time. You can survive nearly anything if you focus on the present. Tomorrow really will take care of itself. When tomorrow arrives, focus on the day.
- 6. Keep moving. Grandma Murphy said "Get the absolute best you can out of every single day." Keep improving and trying new things. Small daily improvements eventually result in huge advantages.
- 7. Be decisive. "A good plan violently executed today is far and away better than a perfect plan tomorrow." Gen. Tecumseh Sherman, Union Army.
- 8. Never let anybody push you around. In America, you have just as much right to what you're doing as anyone else, as long as it's legal.
- 9. Solve your own problems and you develop a competitive edge. Masura Ibuka, the co-founder of SONY, said: "You never succeed in technology, business, or anything by following others."
- 10. Don't take yourself too seriously. Smile! Half of what we accomplish we owe to luck. When asked about life and career paths, Grandpa said: "What should you be? You should be happy."
I'm working on it, Grandpa. Make your life happier - call me for help with your creative projects. We'll both be happy.
